SECURING THE
FUTURE OF YOUR CLUB'S HOME GROUND
Dear Club Members and Families,
Many of you will be aware that the Club is currently in
negotiations with the New South Wales (NSW) state government to
secure the future of our home ground, the Keith Thompson Hockey
Centre.
The Club has a 20 year lease agreement with the state government
which expires in January 2014 and the government has signalled
its intention to sell the land as part of its overall asset
disposal programme. Unfortunately, previous commitments by
members of both major parties, to guarantee the Centre’s future,
have not been honoured.
The Club is working hard to have the January 2014 decision
reversed, or at the very least negotiate a sensible resolution
of this issue. Our case is based not only on the impact on this
Club but also on the impact on hockey in broader metropolitan
Sydney. On this score it is worth remembering that five other
clubs, thirteen schools, four hockey associations, and three
representative associations use the Centre. It is a site that
can host international hockey as seen recently in the fixtures
against Japan.
Our negotiations are being pursued at a number of levels and we
are exploring all avenues. Consequently, we are looking to bring
the matter before the NSW Parliament. To secure this objective
we require 10,000 adult signatures and crucially your support. I
am asking you to circulate this petition to your family,
neighbours, local community, friends and work colleagues.
Basically, the more signatures - the better. I am looking to
each club member securing at least thirty signatures.
To ensure that we comply with parliamentary by-laws there are
two important protocols that need to be observed:
** Signatories must be 18 years or older, an Australian citizen,
and a resident of NSW;
** The Club must present petition sheets with original
signatures – we cannot table faxed or scanned sheets.
Quite simply the Club needs your support. Please print out
multiple copies of the
attached petition and
return signed copies of the petition to the Club. The first page
is the cover page; the second is the pages that will follow the
cover page. There will be a suitably marked collection point.
It is imperative that we all take action on this and put in the
required efforts to ensure the best chance of success. I welcome
any questions that you have on this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Maurie Dawson

Farewell &
Best Wishes
Our best wishes and gratitude for their efforts during their
stay at Ryde go out to the following players who are leaving us
for season 2012 at least.
Paul Dobbie, who's work takes him and his lovely family to
Hobart. A strong defender in Div 1, Paul has been connected up
with Bob Thompson's old club in Tassie.
Antony Harding, is also returning to Tasmania shortly. Apart
from keeping goals at Ryde for 16 odd years Antony represented
Australia at the World Transplant Games in hockey and also
cricket.
Margot Burton, is back in her native NZ after spending a few
years at Ryde. Margot made quite an impact here with her
sparkling personality and work ethic.
other shorter term travellers, we hope, are:
Jess White, taking the opportunity to study in the USA
Adrian Fernandes, also heading 'stateside' for 2 years.
Tom de Waal, commences training at the Police Academy in
Goulburn in January so wont be playing at Ryde for 2012.
Lewis Peters is also resuming his Police Academy training after
a recent injury.
We wish our travellers all the best for the future and hope to
see them back at Ryde one day soon.
cheers
Gerald

Expression
of Interest Junior Coaching 2012
Dear Players and Families,
If you are interested in coaching or co-coaching a junior team
in 2012 would you be kind enough to forward an expression of
interest to me by email
(meg.smith@uws.edu.au ) by December 20, 2010. Please
indicate preferred age groups but note also that selection and
allocation of coaches is shaped by a number of factors and is
undertaken in consultation with the Club’s Executive.
Do not be perturbed by that formality. We welcome all those who
are interest in coaching. We will have something in the realm of
thirteen teams plus an 2-3 U9 teams so there is a range of
coaching opportunities. The club is very receptive to the idea
of co-coaching arrangements; as this facilitates instances where
coaches may be concerned about work and/or study. If you have
suggestions as to who may be invited to submit an expression of
interest please just drop me a line or give me a call – 0418 270
014.
Regards,
Meg Smith
