We will be recognising the team’s triumph at the Hero Honda 2010

coach, Ric Charlesworth, and also inducting three new members
into the Hockey Australia Hall of Fame.
On top of that there are some fantastic Auction and Raffle items
going under the hammer during the Lunch including:
* the ultimate hockey experience, including a photograph with
the Kookaburras, the coin toss to start the game, sitting with
the team during the match and signed memorabilia
* framed hockey sticks signed by Ric Charlesworth, Jamie Dwyer
and by the Kookaburras team
* a 2009/10 Australian men's cricket team signed bat
* a pass to Practice Day at the 2011 US Masters Golf at Augusta,
GA .... plus many, many more great items!!
Hockey Australia will also be selling World Cup replica playing
shirts and the World Cup DVD, which you can get signed by the
players at Lunch!
You can raffle or auction these at your end of season events –
or simply keep as a souvenir of your time at the Lunch.
Tickets $135pp for a fantastic afternoon with the Kookaburras.
They’re only in Sydney for a short time before jetting off to
the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Corporate Sponsorship (table of 10 for $2,100) still available,
which entitles your group to be hosted by a Kookaburra, and as
organiser of the table you also receive a hockey stick signed by

13 July 2010 Letter To Members
Dear Club
Members and Families,
Saturday 17 July marks a special day of celebration for the Ryde
Hunters Hill District Hockey Club.
On that day we will officially open our new artificial turf
surface and upgraded lighting facilities. The Minister for Sport
and Recreation, Kevin Greene, will be present in addition to
state and federal dignitaries.
The official ceremony will be held between 2.00pm – 2.30pm and
will be followed by the Premier League match between Ryde and
Moorebank-Liverpool.
It is day of great significance for the club. Through the
efforts of many club members and with the
assistance of government funding the club presents turf and
lighting facilities that are of international standard.
In addition to its celebratory focus it is a day where the club
needs to demonstrate its passion, heart and pride. With an eye
to our future tenure at Waterloo Road it is a day where the club
wishes to confirm, with distinction, that it is a focal point
for hockey and for community sport in the district.
To this end we need your support and that of your friends and
families. While I appreciate that there are many demands on your
time, I would ask that you give strong consideration to
attending.
Your support will be greatly appreciated and most warmly
welcomed.
Yours
sincerely,
Maurice Dawson

Working bee - Saturday 10 July
2010
In preparation for the Field Opening event a working bee will
happen this coming Saturday 10 July 2010.
The working bee will start at 0800.
The primary goal is to clean up the area around the club house
(hopefully by 1200 when the first game starts) with the
secondary goal of being to clean up the area at the front car
park where the old turf was.
The jobs we plan to do and the equipment required is as follows:
1. Remove rubbish around the club house - strong backs.
2. Remove the drop down plastic - ladders (we have 2-3 at the
clubhouse).
3. Remove the old tables
4. Clean up inside the change rooms - move stuff down to the
containers or throw out.
5. Move the goalkeeper net to the end of the field.
6. Mow lawn at front - working lawn mowers and edge trimmers
would be useful.
7. Trim the trees at the front - any appropriate tools
8. Move the steel into a neat pile next to the fence.
9. Pick up remaining pieces of old turf and take to tip.
The stuff to be thrown out will be put into the back of my ute
and taken to the tip.
It is advisable for people to bring gloves and old clothes.
thank you

18 June 2010
Last weekend a team of women from
Sydney North headed up to Bathurst to compete for the first time
at an Open State Championship. The team was a mix of youth and
experience and came from three of the Snorth clubs, one from
Briars plus two from Lithgow, one a friend of Cassie's, the
other, the big sister of two of our u15 boys. None of us had
been to an Opens before...but that made us even as the other
teams hadnt seen us before either. As first timers we were
slotted into Division 2 with the carrot dangling of a promotion
to Div 1 next year if we could win.
The tournament
started with two grass games on the Saturday, all of our girls
having some experience of grass hockey in the past (only at reps
do you get the privelege of playing on grass nowadays). The
girls turned in strong performances to outclass both Wagga 2-1
and Dubbo 2-0 early in the day, then had to front up at an icy
7:15pm to play Bathurst 2 on the sand turf. The game was a tight
affair and the girls hung there in scoring a classy goal to go
up 1-0 and only conceding late in the game from what can be said
to be a fortunate call for the Bathurst side...final score
1-1...from that point on it was going to be a race for the best
goal difference as only the top team in each pool would play in
the final.
Saturday night saw our girls get into the spirit of why you come
to country carnivals, with a sleep in planned for Sunday there
was nothing better than staying up late and finding out what the
locals do for fun. Sunday saw the team dragged out of bed early
for breakfast...only to crawl back in to gather much needed
energy for the final round game vs Scone....a game they had to
win 8-0 to secure a finals spot...and win 8-0 they
did...exercising the parents heart muscles by leaving it
agonisingly late to score that 8th goal...5 goals from Jess
White the highlight of the game....a tasty dinner at Panthers
(where else?) followed by an early night...BRING ON THE FINAL!
The final vs
Crookwell was tougher than the final score showed. Crookwell's
experience and strength denying our girls time & time again. The
girls ground them down eventually through superior fitness,
speed and structure scoring four unanswered goals to be crowned
champions of 2nd Division...Congratulations on a great win!
Cant wait til next year!

Dear Players and Families,
Great News! Ryde members will now receive a 10 per cent discount
on all of their hockey purchases from the Ryde FHE hockey shop.
There is also a benefit to the club as the club receives a five
per cent rebate on all sales made to club members.
Dear Players and Families,
Late notice I know but we are looking for a few volunteers
tomorrow morning (13 March) at 8.00am.
We are preparing an area at the northern end of the field near
the light box. This is to accommodate a new container. This will
assist with storage of key items, including the new cleaner for
the turf.
Thus if you have an hour or so, we would be most grateful.
Shovels and spades are I understand required equipment.

Panthers Roar in the Hunter -
Sydney teams get revenge over country rivals in Hunter Cup
Sunday, 07 March 2010 22:15
The Hunter Cup finals today saw some excellent action on the
turf at Newcastle.
SF 1 saw South’s defeat Maitland 4-3 in golden goal extra time.
South’s took a lead into the break with Kyle Bosworth and Todd
Palmer scoring for the Lions before Peter Urquhart was able to
make the best of a PC routine gone wrong for Maitland. Matt
Brown drew the Rams level at the 45 minute mark to set the scene
for an exciting finish to the game. Simon Vimpani put South’s
3-2 up with 8 minutes to go with a lovely back stick shot from
the top of the D, but Nathan Baker was able to deceive the
South’s defence with a clever slow ball with 4 minutes to go to
square it all up and into ET. 4 minutes in, John Fernance stole
the ball from the Rams defender, stepped the keeper and slotted
home the winner.
SF 2 saw Ryde easily account for cross town rivals Glebe. 5-0
was the score line with Matt Wright, A Caton, Duncan Pearce and
Nic McEwen getting the goals for the panthers. Glebe showed
glimpses of their ability but just couldn’t get the job done
down in the circle.
The 3rd Place playoff saw Match day 1 combatants Glebe and
Maitland at it again. Most people would of tipped the Rams to
win this one based on last weeks result and the form of the 2
teams in the semi’s, but Glebe showed why they are a force in
the Sydney competition with a convincing 6-3 victory. Michael
Wark scored a hat trick and Jake Ribarovski, Peter Wark and Ross
Bougoukas got the other goals. The Rams were not at the same
intensity as they had shown in the semi final, but would still
be pleased with their efforts. Ben Urquhart got a double for the
Rams before Cayde Tasker scored near fulltime to add some
respectability to the score.
The final saw match day 1 combatant Ryde and South Newcastle
renew acquaintances. South’s came into the game on the back of a
tough semi over Maitland, and a psychological advantage having
accounted for the Panthers in Match day 1 3-2. Ryde have been up
the freeway now 2 years in a row contesting Pre Season in
Newcastle and have been in the final of those events now both
times. This time though they were playing for the bounty of
$1000 and a crack at the defending Hunter Coast Premier Hockey
League champions.
South’s got off
to a good start after just 5 minutes when Kyle Bosworth smashed
a curling dipping shot from a PC, just nudging the top of the
backboard. Ryde responded and drew level after 25 mins when Alex
Braude scored a simple tap in. 3 minutes later Bosworth notched
his second from another PC, before Cameron Brown got Panthers
back on level terms with a field goal just 30 seconds later.
Right on half time Brown converted a PC to give Ryde the lead at
the break.
Matt Wright
scored after 45 minutes and the pressure was on South’s to
respond and the man of the moment Kyle Bosworth smashed home a
goal to trail 4-3. It was pretty tense for the next 10 minutes
as both teams tried to establish their dominance, however with
12 minutes to go the wind was knocked out of South’s sails as
Alex Braude received the ball on the dot before turning and
beating Wade shamrock in the South goal for a 5-3 lead.
At this point
the tide turned in favour of ryde, who were able to take full
advantage of their youth and maintain the high tempo as South’s
began to tire. Goals to Wright and Ben Craig blew the score out
to 7-3 at fulltime. A highly entertaining game.
Congratulations to Ryde for their victory.
Big thank you to all the clubs who competed. Also thanks to the
umpires today, Stewart, Scott, John and Dave, your efforts were
appreciated.
Once again thank you and good luck with your 2011 premiership
campaigns.

Hooked in2 Hockey at Ryde Hunters
Hill Hockey Club
With one eye on the forthcoming hockey season the Ryde Hunters
Hill Hockey Club has successfully concluded its second annual
Hook in2 Hockey Clinic.
The clinics are designed as an introduction to hockey, and for
aspiring hockey players to ‘give hockey a go’. Hook in2 Hockey
is a Hockey Australia initiative which is strongly supported by
Hockey NSW. All participants receive four sessions of coaching,
a hockey stick, shin guards and a ball!
The Club welcomed twenty participants, aged between 4 and 13, to
the clinic which was conducted over four days. Coaching
Coordinators John Cullen and Steve Dunn ensured that the clinic
was constantly on the move with a series of drills and
exercises. Each day’s clinic was concluded with an eagerly
contested game, with the coaching assistants, all senior players
at Ryde, acting as supporters, mentors and umpires!
The participants welcomed the support they received from current
players and coaches including Lily Brazel, Ben Campey, Chris
Campey, Matt Cullen, Ben Craig, Tom Craig, Josie de Wall, Tom de
Waal, Maddie English, Michael English, Gill McCartney, David
Moore and Declan Moore.
Despite the warm weather there were smiles all round with
everyone keen to return on the following day. Meg Smith, RHHHC
Junior President, labelled the clinic a great success: “First
and foremost, everyone has fun, and secondly the clinic
introduces kids, who have not played hockey, to the sport. They
may not choose to pursue hockey instantly but they may keep it
in mind in the future” she said.
For those interested in further information about Ryde hockey
please contact Meg Smith on 0418 270 014. or see this website.

Hi All,
A significant thank you to those families who participated in
last Saturday's working bee. If anyone has an hour or two to
spare on Saturday morning from 8am (30 January) we are
continuing the work with the turf perimeter fence - where there
are a significant number of damaged fence panels. This is a time
consuming job and one for the very patient. The bolts on the
panels are rusted. Thus we are grinding the bolts off, removing
the fence panels, removing all weeds and associated rubbish, and
then reattaching the fence panels with new bolts. If you have a
grinder that would be great - gloves are also essential.
Remember many hands make light work and this is your chance to
your little bit for the club and couple of hours does not take
much out of the day and it would be good to see some new faces.
Cheers
Micheal Gunner
20 January 2010
Hi All,
A Working Bee has been scheduled for Saturday 23 January (start
8.00am) in preparation for the start of training and our
forthcoming season.
There are a number of tasks to be completed including:
removing the turf perimeter fence,
making necessary repairs, and rebolting
weed removal
leaf mulch removal around turf
perimeter
removing the scrub in the extremities
of the ground, particularly on the Waterloo Rd boundary
restoring the BBQ area
removing rubbish to tip (we may need
trailers)
cleaning drain at the rear of the
canteen and in the barbecue area
pruning
mowing all areas of the facility
Just a few
