30 August 2010

The Panther premiership pursuit has commenced in triumph for our u17 Panthers. Our top Panther 'cub' side securing a 4-2 victory over Moorebank on Friday night to take out the u17 Div 1 premiership...the first for Ryde in 23 years...Congratulations to all involved.

Four of our mens teams have booked a place in finals action next week 7th, 6th, 4th & 3rd Grade. A number of those teams having to win their last game to ensure their spot in a closely contested race to the finals. The most notable of these, 4th grade who needed to defeat 3rd place Sutherland on Saturday and did so with a breakaway goal in the last 30 seconds of the game and 3rd grade who had to win their last 3 matches against 'top 4' contenders to cement their finals spot and did so in style, without conceding a goal.

Two of our womens teams had a similar weekend with 2nd & 5th grade needing to win their games to advance to the finals...both teams won and with 3rd grade assured of a finals berth we have 3 out 6 teams into the finals. Our other teams finished mid table or higher...a solid result overall for the women this year showing good growth in our player talent and excellent prospects for the future.

There are a few Panther 'cub' teams into grand finals as well...
u11 Panthers
u11 Black Tigers
u13 Black Tigers
u13 Panthers
u15 Panthers
u17 Tigers (major semi)

So watch out for my next email with your weekend itinerary of Panther hockey viewing.

Lastly and Most Importantly we will need some volunteers to man the BBQ next Saturday running all day from early for junior grand finals followed by 4 x mens semi's (including our 3rd & 4th grade) ...JUST 1 HOUR of your time would help out a lot!

contact me gerald@dobson.com.au  or Meg Smith meg.smith@uws.edu.au  if you can assist

12 July 2010

Hi All,

Firstly thank you to Kirsten Pearce and her parents who were the only representatives from the women’s side of the club who helped out with this weekends working bee. It was very disappointing to have such a poor turn out from the women’s club and we need to make a greater effort to support your club, we are all busy but the club relies on volunteer help so we need to find time to help maintain and improve your club.

This Saturday is the opening of the new turf and upgrade of the lights, there will be media and politicians in attendance and it is important that we have a big showing from all members. The official opening is at 2pm followed by 1st Grade vs. Moorebank, please read the attached flyer for more information

Finally best of luck to Kirsten Pearce and Johanna Rowlands who will be travelling to Brisbane to compete in the National Under 21 Championships

Field Opening and Working Bee

Hi All,

Once again thank you to all those players who are helping out your fellow club mates and doubling up.

Opening Celebration

Our new turf and lighting facilities will be officially opened by the Minister for Sport and Recreation, Kevin Greene, Saturday 17 July.

The official ceremony will be held between 2.00pm and 2.30pm. The Minister along with other dignitaries will be the guest of the club for the Men’s Premier League match between Ryde and Moorebank (concluding 4.00pm).

It is an important day of celebration for the Club. Additionally and with one eye on our future at our present home we welcome a HUGE crowd in attendance.

So bring your whole family, bring your neighbours, and all those who believe in the further of our Club and community sport.

Working Bee

In preparation for the Field Opening event a working bee will happen this coming Saturday 10 July 2010.

The working bee will start at 0800.

The primary goal is to clean up the area around the club house (hopefully by 1200 when the first game starts) with the secondary goal of being to clean up the area at the front car park where the old turf was.

The jobs we plan to do and the equipment required is as follows:

1. Remove rubbish around the club house - strong backs.
2. Remove the drop down plastic - ladders (we have 2-3 at the clubhouse).
3. Remove the old tables
4. Clean up inside the change rooms - move stuff down to the containers or throw out.
5. Move the goalkeeper net to the end of the field.
6. Mow lawn at front - working lawn mowers and edge trimmers would be useful.
7. Trim the trees at the front - any appropriate tools
8. Move the steel into a neat pile next to the fence.
9. Pick up remaining pieces of old turf and take to tip.

The stuff to be thrown out will be put into the back of my ute and taken to the tip.
It is advisable for people to bring gloves and old clothes.

Cheers

Women's Vice President

18 June 2010

Last weekend a team of women from Sydney North headed up to Bathurst to compete for the first time at an Open State Championship. The team was a mix of youth and experience and came from three of the Snorth clubs, one from Briars plus two from Lithgow, one a friend of Cassie's, the other, the big sister of two of our u15 boys. None of us had been to an Opens before...but that made us even as the other teams hadnt seen us before either. As first timers we were slotted into Division 2 with the carrot dangling of a promotion to Div 1 next year if we could win.

The tournament started with two grass games on the Saturday, all of our girls having some experience of grass hockey in the past (only at reps do you get the privelege of playing on grass nowadays). The girls turned in strong performances to outclass both Wagga 2-1 and Dubbo 2-0 early in the day, then had to front up at an icy 7:15pm to play Bathurst 2 on the sand turf. The game was a tight affair and the girls hung there in scoring a classy goal to go up 1-0 and only conceding late in the game from what can be said to be a fortunate call for the Bathurst side...final score 1-1...from that point on it was going to be a race for the best goal difference as only the top team in each pool would play in the final.

Saturday night saw our girls get into the spirit of why you come to country carnivals, with a sleep in planned for Sunday there was nothing better than staying up late and finding out what the locals do for fun. Sunday saw the team dragged out of bed early for breakfast...only to crawl back in to gather much needed energy for the final round game vs Scone....a game they had to win 8-0 to secure a finals spot...and win 8-0 they did...exercising the parents heart muscles by leaving it agonisingly late to score that 8th goal...5 goals from Jess White the highlight of the game....a tasty dinner at Panthers (where else?) followed by an early night...BRING ON THE FINAL!

The final vs Crookwell was tougher than the final score showed. Crookwell's experience and strength denying our girls time & time again. The girls ground them down eventually through superior fitness, speed and structure scoring four unanswered goals to be crowned champions of 2nd Division...Congratulations on a great win!

Cant wait til next year!

Thursday Night Training

Hi All,

There has been a little bit of confusion about what time training is this Thursday night. For this week training is as follows

1st Grade 8-9pm
2nd Grade 7-8pm
3rd Grade 7-8pm
4th Grade 7-8pm
5th Grade 8-9pm
6th Grade 8-9pm

So the changes for this week are 1st Grade are training later and 3rd and 4th Grade are training earlier. I apologise for the inconsistency of training times and the coaches will be meeting on Thursday after training to come to an agreement on what the training times will be for the remainder of the season.

If you have any questions please contact either myself or the coaches.

Regards,
Micheal Gunner

Urgent Ryde Hockey Trials Update

Hi All,

We have been informed by Macquarie Uni late tonight of a mix up in communication of the trial times and as a consequence the trial times have been changed. The new times are as follows:

4th Grade – 4:30pm

If you are selected in the 4th Grade trial we ask if you could please be at the ground by 3:30 to assist 5th Grade as some players still remain unconfirmed.

I apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused. Team Lists.

For those who are playing in the intra-club trial at 8.30am we ask that you be there at 8:15am and if you could please bring a white shirt along with a coloured shirt.

Once again we apologise for the inconvenience and look forward to seeing you there

Cheers
Micheal

04 March 2010

Hi All,

Please find attached the selections for this weekends trials. A couple of things to note, the trial in the morning is a intra club trial for the 1st and 2nd Grade Squad with the squad listed in alphabetical order there is no team named just squad, the second is the afternoon trials against Macquarie Uni the matches are not consecutive it goes 3rd Grade, 5th Grade and then finally 4th Grade.

If you could please be at the ground at least 30 minutes before the commencement of your allotted game, if you are unable to play please let us know immediately so the at alternative arrangements can be made.

IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN NAMED IN ANY OF THE TEAMS AND ARE INTENDING ON PLAYING THIS YEAR PLEASE LET ME KNOW AS A MATTER OF URGENCY.

Finally if you are playing in the 3rd Grade trial we may need some of you to double up so please be prepared.

See you all on the weekend
Cheers
Micheal

25 February 2010

Hi All

Please find attached the selections for the upcoming weekend, this weekend we have three trials with 1st and 2nd Grade playing Sutherland and the remainder of the club playing in a intra-club trial. If you could please be at the ground at least 30 minutes before the commencement of your match, if you are playing in the inter club trial could you please bring a white shirt and a dark coloured shirt. If you are unable to play please let the coaches know immediately.

The times for the trials this weekend are as follows:
1pm – 2nd Grade
2.30pm – 1st Grade
4pm – Intra-club

The times for the trials in the upcoming week are as follows

7th March
8.30am – 1st Grade Intra-club
3.30pm – 2nd Grade vs. Macq Uni
4.30pm – 4th Grade vs. Macq Uni
5.30pm - 3rd Grade vs. Macq Uni

14th March
9am – 1st Grade vs. Briars
10.30am – 2nd Grade vs. Briars
4pm – Intra-club

The season is then scheduled to start on the 21st March for 1st and 2nd Grade and possibly 5th Grade and then the following weekend the season starts for 3rd and 4th Grade. So the season is almost upon us and selections are starting to heat up with this year being the first year for a number of years where competition is high for selection in each grade. So now is the time to make your mark and stake your claim for selection. Please note that selection is made upon ability and not reputation or history and if you are not turning up to training or trials we cannot select you above others who are putting in a effort, this is a not too subtle reminder to those athletes who have indicated that they are playing this year but we have yet to see.

See you all on the weekend
Cheers
Mick

PS We are looking for someone to work in the canteen on a Saturday, some Friday nights, this is a paid position. If you are over 18, trustworthy, reliable and would like to make a little extra cash please contact me on 041302030. If you can guarantee the club that you will work for a whole season we will also pay for your RSA which you need to seek work at any pub or club in NSW.

19 February 2010

Hi All,

As most of you are aware that this Sunday 21st February we are playing Moorebank in some trial matches at Ryde, we have selected some teams, (attached) as a starting point and will be playing 4 trials matches. Please note that selections are far from complete with 12 players unavailable and a further 17 uncertain if they are playing and in excess of 20 new player enquiries so it is going to be very competitive for positions this year.

If you could please be at the ground 30 minutes before your scheduled match, if your name is not listed if you could please turn up to the trial at 3:30pm. If you are listed in a team and are unable to play please let us know urgently.

Given this is only a trial match if you wish you can wear black shorts as opposed to a black skirt and if you do not have a Ryde shirt if you could please bring a white shirt.

Look forward to seeing you all on Sunday

Cheers
Micheal Gunner

We will be having a series of intra-club games so dust of those hockey shoes, find your shin pads and hockey stick and head on down to the ground for 10.30 start.

Please remember to bring both a white and dark shirt and look forward to seeing you all there.

Cheers
Micheal Gunner

24 January 2010

Hi All,

I hope you all had good Christmas and welcome to the 2010 season.

Just a quick note to let you know what is happening around the club as most of you may be aware the turf was ripped up prior to Christmas and the new carpet is currently being laid in readiness for the commencement of training on Thursday 4th February at 7pm followed by a club registration day on Sunday 7th February (time to be confirmed). Please watch emails if there is any change to this start due to the turf not being completed and the exact time for the registration day on Sunday.

We currently have a number of coaches appointed and are currently looking around for a couple more.

Finally a club as big as ours does not just happen it usually comes down to the dedication and commitment of a few individuals and I know that those few individuals would appreciate some assistances, as the cliché goes “Many hands make light work” so if you are interested in helping out on either women’s management which is not as onerous as it sounds or helping out in a small way please contact either Kara or myself. Kara can be contacted on 0407 499384 or my number is below.

I look forward to seeing you all next Thursday.

Cheers
Micheal Gunner
