Grand Final WIN
Boys,
Congratulations on the Grand Final win.
Very much deserved given the consistent year we had, good finals
game wins and we also soundly defeating the minor premiers UTS
during the year.
There wasn't much between us & Macarthur at the end of the round
games - just an extra win to us and an extra draw to them (but
we did have a much better F & A).
This only proved to be more true in the GF.
It was hard to believe that it went down to the start of a 2nd
round of golden goal penalty strokes to decide a winner.
I think we had the better of the game, with far more shots on
goal and chances to score but Macarthur really hung in.
Probably they only really looked dangerous when they received a
few short corners.
Credit to our defence which has been solid all year.
Few points out of the game:
1. Dasher proved once again that he is a big game goal scorer
and an evergreen left winger. (Dasher also scored in the 2009
GF). Good pass by Sniper to setup goal.
2. It was good Rob left his old shoes that home so he could get
a new pair and stand up on the field.
3. Although it seemed we were not getting the much "rub of the
green" everyone stuck at it.
4. The stroke takers were "bloody" excellent - looked very
confident and produced under extreme pressure.
5. Mark Studdy did a great job too defend the short corners &
ensure we got the chance for Dunny to slot the winner.
Highlights of the year:
1. Ryde B won the GF again.
2. Kerry's goal against Southern Highland when he did a quick
replacement from the 25m line intercepted the pass and "scored".
I think that is why subs are done at 1/2 way.
3. Sniper's tomahawk goal into top of net. Unfortunately Charlie
didn't see it.
4. 1 yellow card all year (and that was a very harsh decision).
Not bad for 19 games.
5. Knocking Glebe right out of the comp first round.
6. There was an average of 15 players per game - which showed
the enthusiasm of everyone to play hockey.
7. Rohan scored some great goals at left wing (16 for year).
The standard has been set for Ryde B grade now - expectation is
Grand Final each year as a minimum.
Also, we have established a strong rivalry against Macarthur -
so the onus is on us to keep the wood on them.
Anyhow that's it for 2011, thanks everyone for a great year and
a memorable Grand Final win.
Make sure you get yourself back to Vets Hockey next year. Bring
along any players that show an interest.
PS: Graham Symes sent his best wishes for the GF (got them after
game) and Richard Ellison sent his congratulations.
